AUTOMATIC VANDAL TRACKING ROBOTS
The new exhibition of Bruno " the BYZ" Brunet
Exhibition: May 29, 2008 > June 28, 2008
Bruno Brunet has delved into his own past as a graffiti artist to describe his vision of graffiti. His work in the gallery doesn’t reflect the ‘traditional’ image we have of graffiti but rather the psychology of the graffiti artist.
METROBOT represents the repression of graffiti artist by the subway and railway companies. This conflict is as old as graffiti itself. Better still, it has given graffiti the reputation of being an ‘act of rebellion’, with the authorities acting as a referee in the competition that exists between graffiti artists. Boldness, dexterity, merit and know-how are the values that animate graffiti subculture. In the exhibition’s manifesto, a Romanesque teaser, the artist describes the METROBOT: A robot whose mission is to search and destroy the graffiti artists.Bruno Brunet develops an aesthetic of the repression of graffiti and its role. So who benefits from this never-ending struggle?
